Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. Define energy.
  1. Identify one source of energy.
  1. Compare and contrast how humans get energy and how plants get energy. 
                                              
  2. Relate light and heat energy.

  3. Explain how heat energy can be produced.
  1. The Sun is the main source of energy for the Earth. Hypothesize what would happen if the Sun’s energy couldn’t get through to Earth.

  • The Sun helps both plants and animals get energy.
  • Plants use the Sun’s energy and convert it into food.

  • Light and heat energy are both different forms of energy

  • Plants would not be able to make food without the Sun’s energy.
  • Humans would be forced to find alternate sources of energy in order to survive.
