Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. Define transformation.
  1. Identify the role food plays in human energy.
  1. Can energy be destroyed? Explain.
  1. When we are cold, we rub our hands together. Infer why we do that.
  1. Our body needs food to convert to energy. Draw conclusions as to what would happen if a person did not eat food during the day.
  1. “Our body gains energy from the sun in different ways”. Cite evidence to support this statement.

  • Our body gains energy from the sun when we eat foods that come from plants, because plants rely on the sun’s energy to grow.
  • Our body can gain heat energy when the sun warms us.
