Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  1. Explain how a red blood cell is similar to a white blood cell.  How are they different?
  1. Your friend said that cells are the most important component of an organism.  Do you agree or disagree?  Explain your reasoning.

  • They are both cells
  • They are both part of circulatory system

  1. Acceptable responses to support the statement may include, but are not limited to:
  • Cells are the basic building blocks of all life.
  • Similar cells build tissue.
  • The tissue builds organs.
  • Without cells, organs would not form.

Acceptable responses to oppose the statement may include, but are not limited to:

  • An organ is made of many cells.
  • If one cell dies or does not work properly, it can be replaced through cell division.
  • Without organs, an organism would not be able to perform basic functions needed to sustain life.
