Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

 

  1. Who is the main character of your story?
  1. What will the setting of your story be?
  1. Name a character trait that will describe the main character. How can this be shown throughout the story?
  1. Use a graphic organizer to organize story events in a logical order.
  1. Create a draft of your story.
  1. Read the following passage. Create a new ending to the story.

  1. Students will identify a character that will be developed in their story.

  2. Students will tell where their story takes place.

  3. The students will choose a character trait for the main character that will be developed throughout the story. They will give examples of actions and words that the character could say to show this trait throughout the story.

  4. Prior to writing a draft, students will use a graphic organizer to put story events in order according to how they will occur in the writing. The order used should show the development of the plot.

  5. Students will write a draft of their narrative. They should have a beginning that introduces the character, setting, and problem of the story. The body should describe events that lead to the conclusion of the story. The conclusion should include the resolution of the story.

  6. Students will read and analyze a narrative passage. They should identify the problem and solution of the original story. They should then create a new way for the problem to be solved and use it to write an alternative way to end the story.
