  5. Student determines which technology tool(s) is/are appropriate for the writing.  The student will consider tools that might be used for producing, publishing, interacting with others, and collaborating.  Some of the factors that may be considered in choosing the right technology tool(s) include:

    1. The intended audience of the writing.
    2. The intended purpose of the writing.
    3. The student’s access to technology software and hardware.
    4. The support student has available for learning and using software and hardware.
    5. The purpose for collaborating and communicating with others.  Is it used for feedback and input during the writing process or on the final product?
    6. The scope of the writing.
    7. The style of the writing.

  7. With some guidance and support, the student uses technology tool(s) to produce and publish a writing.  The student chooses appropriate tools, learns to use the tools, and uses the tools effectively to produce and publish a writing.  This process likely includes multiple technology tools including those that are used to research and/or create background knowledge, as well as those that are used to produce and publish the writing.  For example, this may be using an online encyclopedia to gather information, Microsoft Word to move through the writing process, and Blogger to publish the writing.

  8. With some guidance and support, the student uses technology tools interact and collaborate with others throughout the writing process.  The student chooses appropriate tools, learns the tools, and uses the tools effectively to interact and collaborate with others about writing.  The tools needed for this process will depend on the intent and purpose of the interaction and collaboration.  For example, if the collaboration is intended to help a student work through the revision and editing process, Google Docs might be an appropriate tool.  If the collaboration and interaction is to provide commentary and discussion on a final project, Blogger might be an appropriate tool.
