Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. Locate individuals to provide guidance and support to develop and strengthen writing.

  2. Identify various stages of the writing process.

  3. Identify the role of purpose and audience in the craft of writing.

  2. Apply feedback from peers and adults during different stages of the writing process while focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed.

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Student locates individuals to provide guidance and support to develop and strengthen writing. Examples of peer and adult writing guidance and support include, but are not limited to, one-on-one writing conferences, peer feedback routines, and small group instruction.

  2. Student identifies various stages of the writing process. The writing process includes stages of planning, drafting, revising, editing, rewriting, and reflecting.

  3. Student identifies the role of purpose and audience in the craft of writing. This identification is developed through the guidance and support of peers and adults who serve as an audience for a written piece.

  4. Student interprets the guidance and support from peers and adults to develop and strengthen writing.  
     
  5. Student applies feedback from peers and adults during different stages of the writing process while focusing on how well purpose and audience have been addressed. 

  6. Student incorporates guidance and support from peers and adults into a personal writing plan to develop and strengthen writing. Over time, guidance and support in the form of feedback are collected and incorporated into a personal writing plan. The writing plan includes strategies to incorporate and apply the writing process in order to construct a well-crafted written piece.

  7. Student evaluates the extent to which feedback focusing on purpose and audience during the various stages of the writing process are incorporated into writing. Through ongoing support and guidance, students evaluate written pieces to determine the effect of their writing on the intended audience.
