Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Student identifies examples of technology that can be used to produce and publish writing. These examples include, but are not limited to, computer word processing programs such as Microsoft Word, and web-based word processing programs such as Google Docs.

  2. Student accurately identifies examples of technology to effectively present the relationships between information and ideas. Acceptable examples include, but are not limited to, the use of spreadsheets and infographics embedded in a written piece.

  3. Student identifies examples of technology to interact and collaborate with others. Acceptable responses include, but are not limited to, the use of Google Docs, Track Changes in Microsoft Word, and other functions that allow for collaboration through commenting.  

  4. Student compares the uses of different technologies to produce and publish writing. Acceptable responses may compare the ability of different word processing programs to create, edit, and save writing.

  5. Student describes the uses of technology to interact and collaborate with others. Acceptable responses display an understanding of how to use both web-based and offline comments through programs such as Google Docs and Microsoft Track Changes.

  6. Student describes ways to use technology to present the relationship between information and ideas efficiently. Acceptable descriptions include a demonstrated understanding of how to embed spreadsheets, charts, and photos into a document as a way to present the relationship between information and ideas.

  7. Student evaluates the benefits and drawbacks of using different technologies to produce and publish writing by effectively presenting the relationship between information and ideas. Acceptable responses evaluate specific examples of technology to specific genres of writing. For example, online blogs can be used to effectively produce and publish editorials.

  8. Student critiques effective uses of technology to interact and collaborate with others. Acceptable responses display an understanding of examples of technology to interact and collaborate with others, and the specific strengths and drawbacks of these examples.
