Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Student identifies relevant information from various print and digital sources. The student correctly identifies relevant information as information related to a specific topic or a particular research question.

  2. Student identifies effective search terms that can be used to locate digital and print sources with relevant information on a topic. Effective search terms use precise words and phrases that relate the central idea of a particular topic.

  3. Student recognizes examples of quotations and paraphrased data in written piece that avoids plagiarism. Accurate responses identify examples of direct quotations and citations in a written piece that used a print or digital source for information. The student correctly identifies examples of paraphrased data as information that maintains the ideas expressed in the source material written in the own words of a writer who used the source material for information.   
     
  4. Student describes methods to gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources. Methods include, but are not limited to, using a library, the support of a reference librarian, and various online search engines.

  5. Student determines the credibility and accuracy of various print and digital sources of information. Correct responses include a determination that the credibility and accuracy of a source is correctly identified though a consideration of:
  • The author
  • The expertise of the author in relation to the topic
  • The author’s point of view
  • The publication of the source
  • The year of publication
  • Reviews of the source
  1. Student summarizes information by paraphrasing data and conclusions of others gathered from various print and digital sources. Accurate paraphrased information summarizes data and is written in the words of the writer while maintaining the central ideas expressed by the author of the original source. Accurate paraphrased information also includes a correct citation of the original source.

  2. Student critiques the credibility and accuracy of various print and digital sources of information. Correct responses state an informed option of the credibility and accuracy of a source based on the criteria used evaluate print and digital sources.
