Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. Identify the correctly spelled word in each group of words.
  1. Recognize and correct the misspelled word in each sentence.

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. The student will correctly identify the correctly spelled word out of a group of words. The words provided may be the same word, with the distractors misspelled (e.g. went, whent, wint) or may be made up of different spelling words, with only one spelled correctly (e.g. busness, through, matress.)

  2. The student will determine which grade-appropriate word in a sentence is spelled incorrectly and will correct it. Look for the student to independently identify the incorrect word, and to correct it without assistance.

  3. The student will review and revise his or her own writing to ensure correct spelling. Look for the student to identify words that are incorrect, and to independently correct all grade-appropriate words. The student may also identify words above their grade level that are spelled incorrectly, and may use a variety of tools (dictionary, spell-checker, etc) to correct those.
