Answer Key/Rubric

  1. 200

  2. b
  1. Alex studied about 40 minutes.
Acceptable work may include, but is not limited to:

23 ≈ 20
18 ≈ 20
20 + 20 = 40

  1. Each brother will get about $55.
Acceptable work may include, but is not limited to:

223 ≈ 220
220 ÷ 4 = 55

  1. Yes
Explanations may include, but are not limited to:
  • Bianca used estimation to figure out how much each person owed
  • There are 5 people counting Bianca and her four friends
  • Round the bill of $138.22 to $140
  • 140 ÷ 5 = 28
  1. No
Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • Use estimation to check
    103 ≈ 100
    28 ≈ 30
    100 x 30 = 3000
