Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons

  1. Andrea has four bookshelves to hold 68 books. If each bookshelf has the same number of books, which equation when solved will tell how many books are on each shelf?

  1. Antonio bought 5 t-shirts that each cost $16.  Which expression when solved will tell how much he spent on the t-shirts?

  1. The coupon genie was running a special on tickets to the local amusement park.  A package of 4 tickets cost $100 or an individual ticket cost $35.  Suzanne needed 9 tickets, so she purchased two packages of four and one individual ticket.  Write an expression that would represent the total cost she paid.

  2. Chang owns 245 baseball cards.  When Chang and his brother combined their collection, they have 512 cards.  Write an equation that, when solved, will show how many cards his brother has.
  1. Create a story that can be represented by the equation 100 ÷ 4 – 10.

  2. Create a story that can be written as an expression or equation.  Trade stories with a partner and write the expression or equation.
