Continuum of Activities

Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. Give one example of how people pollute the air.

  2. Give one example of how people pollute the land.

  3. Give one example of how people pollute the water.

  4. What is one thing you can do to help decrease pollution?
  1. Write a few sentences to explain two ways that the pollution in your community affects you.
  1. Write a letter to your local congressperson explaining the effects pollution has on your community.  Suggest a few ways that the community can work together to reduce pollution.

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Examples include, but are not limited to: exhaust from automobile, factory emissions, burning fossil fuels
  2. Examples include, but are not limited to: landfills, litter, pesticides, fertilizers, deforestation
  3. Examples include, but are not limited to: industrial waste, sewage, dumping
  4. Examples include, but are not limited to: don’t litter, pick up litter, ride a bicycle, walk, use public transportation, buy environmentally safe chemicals and cleaning products, recycle
  5. Student responses will vary.  Use this rubric to evaluate the responses.

Student is able to describe two ways in which pollution affects them.

Student is able to use facts to explain two or more ways in which pollution affects them.

    • Community clean-up days
    • Stricter littering regulations
    • Reduce construction
    • Recycling programs
