Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  1. What type of cloud brings precipitation?

  2. Describe what the weather might be like on a summer day.

  3. Describe what the weather might be like on a winter day.

  4. Below is a picture of the daily weather forecast.  The high temperatures are shown in the yellow boxes.  What do you think the high temperature will be next Sunday?  Justify your answer. 


  5. Below is a graph showing the wind speed at different times during the day.  What hour of the day generates the most wind power?  What hour of the day generates the least amount of wind power?  Explain your reasoning.
  1. Charlie wants to know the average temperature in September.  He goes outside on his front porch every morning in September at 7:00am and records the temperature.  Will this give Charlie a reliable average temperature?  Why or why not?  What could he do differently to get a more accurate measure?

    • Cooler at night.

    • Cooler in the early morning.

    • Warmest in afternoon.

    • He should take the temperature in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening then average all of the temperatures together.
