Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons

  2. Explain how the question “Does artificial sugar attract ants?” can be answered through scientific inquiry.
  1. For the school science fair John wanted to know which of three toy cars would roll the farthest down a ramp that he had built. Can this question be answered using the scientific method? Justify your answer.

  2. Using a common happening, develop a theory about it and describe an experiment you could perform to test your theory.

    1. An example would be, “The sun rises at a different time every morning”. The experiment could include the student rising before sunrise every morning for a year and recording the time the sun rises. The data could be displayed in a graph that illustration the different times the sun rose each day.
