Animals and Their Habitats

Objectives

In this unit, students will identify and describe characteristics which are inherited from their parents and will be able to explain how each of the four elements (food, water, shelter, living space) in a habitat is essential for survival. Students will:

  • recognize that living things have characteristics inherited from their parents.

  • understand the four elements of a habitat (food, water, shelter and living space) and why each is essential for survival.

  • identify local animals and describe their habitats.

  • understand that animals and plants must be able to adapt to their surroundings to survive or they will become extinct.
