Objectives

In this unit, students will:

  • use correct subject-verb agreement for indefinite pronouns in written work.
  • use correct pronoun-antecedent agreement for indefinite pronouns in written work.

    • Always-singular indefinite pronouns: end in body, one, thing, or other, plus either, neither, and each.
    • Always-plural indefinite pronouns: memorize the five indefinite pronouns that are always plural: both, few, many, others, and several.
    • Indefinite pronouns that are singular or plural depending on the subject to which they refer: determine if the indefinite pronoun is countable or not.

    The student composes a one-paragraph conclusion to the story demonstrating understanding of indefinite pronouns:

    • mostly correct use of subject-verb agreement.
    • mostly correct use of pronoun-antecedent agreement.
    • use of a variety of indefinite pronouns: at least three singular, one plural, and one that is dependent upon the subject to which it refers.
