Description
Considered by many to be an American prophet and martyr, Joseph Smith died a violent death at the hands of an angry mob on June 27, 1844. Seven days before his death, Joseph Smith sent a letter appealing to President John Tyler for constitutional protection from angry mobs proposing the extermination of the Mormons. Unfortunately, Joseph Smith never received the proper lawful protection he deserved leading to his premature death.
