Description
This activity takes place during small group instruction. Students are discriminating between short vowel sounds and long vowel sounds. Students will complete a word sort. You will make the cards according to the vowel sound you are reinforcing. First, you will need to place a word card with a long vowel sound and a word with a short vowel sound on separate sides of the pocket chart. The rest of your fish cards will need to have paper clips fastened to them and they can be placed in the pool. Students will take turns catching a fish. When students catch a fish, they will read the word that is on the fish and place it under the appropriate word on the pocket chart. Each student will take turns until all the fish have been caught. Then the group can read the words which contain long vowel sounds and words that contain short vowel sounds.
Goal
Students will be able to discriminate long vowel sounds and short vowel sounds.
