Assessment Literacy
Assessment literacy refers to an educator’s ability to create, select, interpret, and use assessments effectively to inform instruction and support all learners. It includes understanding the purposes of assessment, aligning assessments with academic standards, analyzing data to guide decisions, and communicating results clearly to students and families.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is committed to ensuring that every educator is equipped with the knowledge and tools to support student learning through meaningful assessment practices. The Assessment Literacy Series is designed to build a shared understanding of assessment concepts that promote equity, instructional improvement, and student achievement across the Commonwealth.
This series supports PDE’s vision for high-quality, standards-aligned instruction by fostering a culture of assessment that is purposeful, inclusive, and focused on student growth.
