Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  1. Define prediction.

  2. Define observation.
  1. The invention of the telephone changed many things. Predict an effect of this invention. 
                                                 
  2. You observe that your school has started to serve more fruits and vegetables at lunch. What may happen as a result of this change?
  1. You notice that an animal has sharp teeth and claws. Hypothesize what kind of food this animal might eat.

  2. You have two dogs of the same breed. You feed them different brands of dog food. You notice one dog that eats Brand A has more energy and is growing at a faster rate than the dog that eats Brand B. Draw conclusions as to why this happens.

  1. A prediction is defined as a statement about what will happen or might happen in the future.

  2. An observation is defined as a statement about something you have noticed; a comment or remark.

  3. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • People were able to communicate faster.
  • More jobs were created.
  • Communicating became more efficient and less expensive.
  • A new industry was created.
  1. Acceptable responses may include, but are not limited to:
  • Students will bring other snacks from home.
  • More students will buy lunch.
  • Students will eat healthier. 
  • Fewer students will buy lunch.

  • This animal might eat meat because it has sharp teeth to rip the meat.
  • This animal might eat other animals because it has claws to catch the animals with.

  • This may happen because Brand A is healthier than Brand B.
  • Brand A may contain more ingredients that the dog needs.
  • Brand B may contain more fat than Brand A.
