Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. In your own words define gradual and abrupt. How are those words used in the field of science?

  2. Identify one abrupt change that could happen to the Earth’s surface.
  1. Compare and contrast the following events: meteor impact vs. lifting up of mountains
    Share and compare your results with your tablemates.

  2. Write a short story about a meteor falling. You will need to state how large the meteor was, it’s properties, where it fell and the destruction it caused. Use outside resources and science to guide your story, but be creative!
  1. Choose one natural wonder and research it. In your research, determine if it is a result of an abrupt change, or gradual change. Be ready to give a brief 3-minute presentation to the class. Please have a photo to show!
