Answer Key/Rubric
- Student reads on-level texts with purpose and understanding. The student strives to read accurately and fluently.
- Student reads on-level texts orally with proper phrasing and intonation. Text is chunked within the oral reading to provide meaningful expression. Student reads at an appropriate rate for understanding and meaning. The student’s fluency and accuracy is increased each time the text is read. Increasing fluency and accuracy requires students to analyze each reading and strive for improvement.
- Student uses context of the text to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding. As the student reads orally, he/she might need to change his/her initial take on a word or meaning of the text and correct it according to their newly learned knowledge.
- Student self-evaluates himself/herself to determine how his/her current reading fluency and accuracy affects comprehension. The student considers his/her accuracy, rate, expression, and other factors. Furthermore, the student determines if any of these areas are not currently maximized and establishes plans to improve these skills.
