Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Students will tell what words could be used in a search engine for a given topic. They should use specific words that would narrow in on the topic.

  2. Students will choose from a list the best book title that would be a good source of information for a given topic.

  3. Students will be given categories to use to organize their research. They should sort their information into those categories.

  4. Students should discuss the layout of the library and how it is divided according to genres. They should also discuss the use of the library’s catalog. They should explain that they can use an author’s name, a title, or a keyword to get the location of the book they are looking for.

  5. Students will gather information about a topic from at least three sources. They will combine the information to summarize the topic. The combining of the information should be seamless.

  6. Students should explain that to summarize you must first read the text closely. You should then pick out the main idea and details and write briefly in your own words. They should point out that the summary should be much shorter than the original. They should explain that the summaries they create can then be the information used to develop the research report. Because it was reworded, not copied, they will not break any plagiarism rules.
