Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  1. An audience will enjoy a presentation that uses visual and/or auditory appeal more.  Using visual appeal in addition the spoken words may help an audience better understand the message or main idea. The multimedia components and visual displays may explain in another way or enhance the speech further.

  2. Student lists qualities of good multimedia components and visual displays.  Good multimedia components and visual displays is chosen to match the intended purpose and audience. It is of a high quality (easy to see, hear, or read).  It takes into account good graphic design principles. It is available for use for the intended purpose. (i.e. licensing).

  3. Student considers the main topics and supporting details and reasons of the speech to determine what might be further explained or enhanced by multimedia components and visual displays.  The multimedia components and visual displays should be intentionally chosen and placed.

  4. Student locates and selects relevant, quality multimedia components and visual displays for use. The purpose for choosing to use multimedia components and visual displays is clear.  The choice of appropriate multimedia components and visual displays is thoughtful.
