Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. Make a list of multimedia components that can be used to clarify information in a presentation.  Give an example of each multimedia component.

  2. Given a multimedia presentation on nutrition, note the multimedia components used to clarify the information.

  1. Student makes a list of multimedia components that can be used to clarify information in a presentation.  Student gives an example of each multimedia component.  Student correctly makes list of multimedia components.  Student correctly gives examples of each.  Student’s list may be similar to the following:
  • Text – words on computer screen, words in a graphic slide show
  • Audio – radio show, song, streamed audio content
  • Images – photographs, illustrations, graph
  • Video – documentary, video clip
  • Animation – animated picture, interactive buttons, cartoon

     Student understands multimedia is used to communicate information through text, audio, images, video and
     animation.  Student understands multimedia can be used to help explain or clarify, organize ideas, interpret
     information or illustrate a point. 

  1. Given a multimedia presentation on nutrition, student notes the multimedia components used to clarify the information.   Student views multimedia presentation.  Student is attentive during the presentation.  Student takes notes on the multimedia components used to clarify the information on nutrition.  Student correctly identifies multimedia components used to clarify nutrition information.  Student notes if text, audio, images, video or animation were used. Student understands multimedia is used to communicate information through text, audio, images, video and animation.  Student understands multimedia can be used to help explain or clarify, organize ideas, interpret information or illustrate a point.

  2. Student includes a video in a presentation on fast food to clarify information.  Student prepares a presentation on fast food.  Student searches online for a credible video that will support the presentation and claim.  Student ensures video comes from a source with credentials or expertise.  Student understands that .edu or .gov webpages may be credible sources for video.  Student understands that .edu or .gov domains are more likely to be credible because they represent educational institutions or the government, entities with reputations to uphold.  Student includes an effective video that strengthens claims about fast food.  Student understands multimedia is used to communicate information through text, audio, images, video and animation.  Student understands multimedia can be used to help explain or clarify, organize ideas, interpret information or illustrate a point.

  3. Student includes images such as photographs, illustrations or maps in a presentation on the Roman Empire to clarify information.  Student begins to prepare an effective Roman Empire presentation as he/she searches online for images from a credible source that will support the presentation.  Student understands that .edu or .gov webpages may be a credible source for images.  Student understands that .edu or .gov domains are more likely to be credible because they represent educational institutions or the government, entities with reputations to uphold.  Student includes effective images that clarify information in a Roman Empire presentation.  Student understands multimedia is used to communicate information through text, audio, images, video and animation.  Student understands multimedia can be used to help explain or clarify, organize ideas, interpret information or illustrate a point.

  4. Student prepares a presentation on a historic event and uses images and audio to clarify the topic and set the mood.   Student begins to prepare an effective presentation on a historic event, as he/she searches online for images and audio from credible sources that will support the presentation.  Student ensures images and audio come from a source with credentials or expertise.  Student understands that .edu or .gov webpages may be a credible source for images or audio.  Student understands that .edu or .gov domains are more likely to be credible because they represent educational institutions or the government, entities with reputations to uphold.  If student is selecting a copyrighted song, he/she follows Fair Use guidelines and only uses the portion of the song needed to accomplish the goal of his presentation.  Song chosen sets the mood for the presentation.  For example, if the historic event was exciting, he/she chooses a song that reflects that excitement.  If the historical event was somber, he/she chooses a song that portrays that emotion.  Student includes effective images and audio that clarifies information and sets the mood for the presentation.  Student understands multimedia is used to communicate information through text, audio, images, video and animation.  Student understands multimedia can be used to help explain or clarify, organize ideas, interpret information or illustrate a point.

  5. Student prepares a presentation on similes and metaphors and includes multimedia components or visual displays to demonstrate comparisons being made.  If using multimedia components, student begins to prepare an effective presentation on similes and metaphors, as he/she searches online for effective multimedia components that support the presentation.  Student chooses multimedia components that effectively demonstrate comparisons between two unlike things.  Student’s choices of multimedia components are effective. Student compares two unlike things effectively with use of multimedia.  If using a visual display, student ensures it is appropriate in size and can be viewed easily by the audience.  Student may use visual displays, such as a poster with printed illustrations.

    Student understands multimedia is used to communicate information through text, audio, images, video and animation.  Student understands multimedia can be used to help explain or clarify, organize ideas, interpret information or illustrate a point.
