Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Student identifies examples of multimedia and visual displays that can be added to a presentation. Different examples include, but are not limited to, print, video, audio, and image. Diverse media also include multimedia formats that combine video, music, images and/or text.

  2. Student states the purpose for adding particular multimedia and visual displays to a presentation. Multimedia and visual displays are added to a presentation to add interest, clarify information, and strengthen claims and evidence.

  3. Student distinguishes different functions and characteristics of various multimedia and visual displays of information. For example, a graph or chart added to a presentation allows a speaker to visually present a graphic representation of data.

  4. Student describes the relationship between the information in a multimedia or visual display and the central idea of a presentation. The student identifies the central idea of a presentation and explains, with evidence, how a multimedia or visual display strengthens the claims and evidence used to support this idea.

  5. Student critiques the effectiveness of a particular multimedia or visual display that is integrated into a presentation. The student determines the strength of the multimedia or visual display to add interest, clarify information, and strengthen claims and evidence. The student critiques ineffective displays by explaining how they detract from a presentation.

  6. Student develops a multimedia or visual display for a presentation and provides a logical argument for its integration. The developed multimedia or visual display clearly shows the relationship among the purpose, audience, and central idea of a presentation.
