The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

  1. Complete the following sentences with the correct possessive noun.
  1. Read the following sentences. Decide if the sentence needs a plural noun or a possessive noun. Write the correct form of the noun to complete the sentence.
  1. You will be looking at several pictures. You must choose a detail from each picture to write a descriptive sentence about. You must use a possessive noun in each sentence.
  1. Choose something that is special to you to write a descriptive paragraph about. First, you will use the graphic organizer to gather details about your topic. Then you will use the details to write your paragraph. You must include three possessive nouns in your paragraph to help with the description of your topic.

  1. Students should explain that to make a singular noun possessive, you first add an apostrophe and then you add the letter s.
  1. Students should explain that if the plural noun ends in an s, you only add an apostrophe to the end of the word. If the plural noun is irregular, and doesn’t end in an s, add an apostrophe and then an s.
  1. Students will read sentences to determine whether they need a singular possessive or plural possessive noun. They will follow the proper procedures in forming the possessive noun.

They will use these details to write a descriptive paragraph. They must include three possessive nouns in their writing. They should help to describe their topic.
