Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  1. List the reasons a writer would use a comma.

  2. Define adjective.
  1. Separate example sentences into one category for those that contain separate coordinate adjectives and one for those that do not.
  1. Revise sentences that contain separate coordinate adjectives and those that do not to indicate proper use of a comma.

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Student list the reasons why a writer uses a comma such as:
  • Separate words or word groups in series of three or more items
  • Separate two adjectives when the adjectives are interchangeable (coordinate)
  • In sentences with two independent clauses joined by a connector such as and, or, but.
