Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  1. Compare the following fractions using <, >, or =

  1. Put the following fractions in order from smallest to largest:

  1. Graph and on the number line below.  Write a true statement comparing the two fractions using <, > or =.  Explain.


  1. Alex and Javier are having a reading completion to see who can finish the same book first.  If Alex has read of the book and Javier has read of the book, who has read more.  Justify your answer.

Acceptable explanations may include, but are not limited to:

  • Based on the number line is larger because it is more to the right
  • Based on the number line is larger because it is closer to one
  • Based on the number line is smaller because it is more to the left
  • Based on the number line is smaller because it is closer to zero

    Acceptable explanations may include, but are not limited to:
  • Since the denominators are the same, you only need to compare the numerators and 3 is greater than 2
  • Javier has read more because he had completed the book while Alex still has more to read
