This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

    1. How many children are less than 10 years old? Show your work
  1. How many people are between the ages of 15 and 49? Explain how you found this.
  1. Choose two numbers from the list below whose sum will be equal to 30,465.

  23,571   4,003   76,196   6,894   32,504

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. 869,933
  1. 355,548
  1. 1,972 people bought more tickets on the opening day.
  1. 11,446 cards in both collections
  1. Answers as follows:
    1. 61,617

Student work might include, but is not limited to:

  • Look at the table and see two categories have the people under 10 years old.
  • First is the under 5 group = 31,050
  • Next is the group of 5 to 9 = 30,567
  • Then you add the two values together
  • 31,050 + 30,567 = 61,617
  1. 262,741

Student work might include, but is not limited to:

  • Look at the table and see that three categories have people from the ages of 15 to 49.
  • The  15 to 19 group has 37,601
  • The 20 to 34 group has 135,468
  • The 35 to 49 group has 89,672
  • Add the amount of people from each group
  • 37,601 + 135,468 + 89,672 = 262,741
  1. 23,571 and 6,894

Student may have to use a guess and check method to find the two numbers that add to the sum of 30,465.  They should use estimation to pick numbers that will be used.  The numbers that are correct are 23,571 + 6,894 = 30,465
