Continuum of Activities

Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

Activities

  1. What term best describes this figure?
  1. How would you describe these lines?
  1. Describe this angle as acute, right, or obtuse.
  1. How many acute angles does the trapezoid have?
  1. Draw a line perpendicular to :
  1. Give a description and draw an example for a right angle, acute angle, and obtuse angle.

  1. Look at the diagram below to answer the following questions, and explain your answer.

Which set of lines is parallel?
Which angle is acute?
Which set of lines is perpendicular?

Answer Key/Rubric

  1. Ray
  1. Parallel lines
  1. Obtuse angle
  1. There are 2 acute angles in the trapezoid.
  1. Lines may vary in location that are drawn perpendicular to , one example is shown below:

  1.  Questions have more than one possible answer; acceptable answers may include:
    1. ; A ray has a starting point, and then continues on forever in one direction.
    2. ; A right angle measures exactly 90 degrees, and is represented in a drawing by a box in the corner.
    3. ; A line continues on in both directions, with no end, represented by the arrows at the end.
    4. ; An acute angle measures more than 0 degrees, but less than 90 degrees.
    5. ; A line segment has a definite beginning and end.
    6. ; An obtuse angle measures more than 90 degrees, but less than 180 degrees.
  1. Answers and explanations might include, but are not limited to:

Which set of lines is parallel?

The lines that are parallel are line CD and line XY.  They are parallel because no matter how far you extend them in either direction they will not cross/touch each other.

Which angle is acute?

Angle SRT is an acute angle.  It is acute because its measure is great than 0° and less than 90°.

Which set of lines is perpendicular?

The lines that are perpendicular are line AB and line CD.  They are perpendicular because they intersect at a right angle that is shown by the square at the intersection point.
