Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons
  • Questions/activities that grow in complexity
  • Opportunities for differentiation for each student’s level of performance

  1. Use the data in the bar graph to create a table.

  1. Angela conducted a survey asking her friends what their favorite fruit was.  Use her results below to make a pictograph.

  1. Make a table that has the number of people in each age group.  What age group has the most people in it?

  1. Create a table about students’ favorite juice flavors.  What is the difference between the most popular juice and the least popular juice?

  1. Create a bar graph using the data in the pictograph about the amount of ice cream being sold during one week.  How many ice creams were sold during the week?  Explain how you found your answer.

  1. Create a table and a bar graph for the number of cupcakes sold during one week.   Explain how you found the number that was sold each day.

       Acceptable explanations may include, but are not limited to:

  • Find the number of whole ice cream cones and multiply it by 4 because each one stands for 4 ice creams sold:  25 x 4 = 100
  • Count the number of half ice cream cones and multiply that by 2 because each one stands for 2 ice creams sold:  3 x 2 = 6
  • Add the two together:  100 + 6 = 106

Acceptable explanations may include, but are not limited to:

  • Look at the key to see the value of one cupcake in the pictograph
  • Count how many cupcakes are next to each day
  • Multiply the number of cupcakes by the value shown in the key
  • Find half of the value when the picture is cut in half by dividing by 2
  • You can use repeated addition to find the total amount
