The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

- Acceptable responses might include, but not be limited to:
- Camel – produces very little sweat and urine allowing it to store more water in its body so it can survive in the desert where there is very little water
- Arctic fox – fur turns white in the winter to provide camouflage against the snow providing it protection from its predators
- Cheetah – has long powerful legs to it can catch it prey and have food to survive in the savannah
- Acceptable responses might include, but not be limited to:
- An organism adapts to survive by changing its behavior or physical characteristics. An example of a behavior change would be birds migrating from Pennsylvania in the fall to a warmer climate. A physical characteristic example would be a beaver’s tail. It is large, flat, and almost hairless and is used to help the beaver balance on its hind legs when chewing on a tree or to slap the water to warn other beavers of danger.
