Answer Key/Rubric
- Students will choose the sentence from among a list of choices that would indicate that a story is coming to an end.
- Students will be presented with a closing sentence. They should identify the word(s) that show that this is the end of the story. Possible words are last, finally, or at last.
- Students will read a narrative and will identify the sentences that make up the conclusion. They should recognize the word/phrase that indicates that the story is coming to an end.
- Students should refer to the closing of the story to determine what the solution to the problem of the story was. This resolution should show the student that the story has ended and they are not left with questions about the plot or character.
- Students will write an ending for their story. The ending should show a resolution to the conflict in the story. Students should use proper transition words to indicate to the reader that the story is ending.
- Students will write an alternative ending to their story. They will discuss how this new ending impacts the character and how the plot has been affected. They should also indicate if the tone of the story has changed as a result of the new ending.
