Description

An ethical appeal is the appeal to a reader's sense of right and responsibility.  When a political candidate writes a campaign letter explaining her strong family values, her religious practice, her steady and careful work habits, she is appealing to the reader's ethical sense.  She is saying, more or less, 'You know that these are good upright qualities because you are a good and upright person too.  So make the right choice and vote for me.'  A reader will be moved to action if his personal ethics are in alignment with those presented in the piece of writing.
