Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  • Instructional activities designed to be integrated into planned lessons

  1. From a list of choices, students will choose the sentence that sums up or restates the opinion of a given paragraph.
  1. Students should write a concluding sentence. The sentence should restate the opinion. It should leave the reader thinking about the opinion.
  1. Students will create a closing that sums up the important thoughts of the writer. It should leave the reader thinking about the most important reasons for the opinion.
  1. Students should revisit and make changes to the closing sentence. Corrections and changes should improve the effectiveness of the sentence.
  1. Students will analyze their writing and decide on the best strategy for closing their writing. They will provide reasons as to why they choose to restate the opinion or summarize the information.
