Continuum of Activities

The list below represents a continuum of activities: resources categorized by Standard/Eligible Content that teachers may use to move students toward proficiency. Using LEA curriculum and available materials and resources, teachers can customize the activity statements/questions for classroom use.

This continuum of activities offers:

  1. You are asked to show what the following problem math problem would look like on a number line. 

0.2 + (-.1.3) – 0.4 – (-0.5)

            Part A) First rewrite the expression using only addition

            Part B) Draw the equation on the number line and solve.

  1. Look at the number line and write a word problem that could be solved by following the steps on the number line.  Write the expression modeled on the number.

  1. The expression that is modeled on the number line is 8 – 4 or 8 + (-4).  Possible word problems might include but are not limited to,
  • Keith was taking a walk on the beach and found 8 sea shells, but gave 4 of them away to a kid that wanted to play with them. How many does he have left?
  • Janice was taking a bike ride and traveled 8 miles when she realized that she dropped her keys.  She had to ride back four miles to find them.  How far was she from her original starting point?
